Pauline Denyer Baker has always lived and worked in Sussex, where her talent for portraiture was first recognised at the age of eleven. After leaving school, she studied Fine Art and design at Brighton College of Art for four years. While studying there, Pauline was fortunate to have been taught by Norman Clark, George Hooper, Charles Morris, Bevril Roberts and Charles Knight. After taking Intermediate and National Diploma in Design at Brighton she studied at the Royal College of Art in 1962, and graduated from there in 1965.

Pauline worked in fashion, and then as a teacher until the early eighties, when she began to study portraiture again, at West Dean College, and where she first encountered miniature painting and began to specialize in portrait miniatures.

Since 1989 Pauline has shown her work at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, and has had nine miniature portraits accepted, and several still lifes. One of these, The Eye of the Artist, was the subject of the Observers review of the summer Exhibition in 1993. During this time, she has exhibited miniatures in several galleries in England and abroad, including the Medici and the Llewellyn Alexander Gallery in London, and has won several awards at the Royal Miniature Society, one of which was the RMS Silver Bowl at the World Exhibition of Miniatures 1995.

Pauline is also a member of the Hilliard Society, and the Miniature Arts Society of Florida where in 1997 she won an award for a Historical portrait, and again in 1998 for a contemporary portrait of a child. Pauline works to commission on watercolour portraits in miniature, on ivorine or vellum specialising in those of children. Her work is in collections in England, Europe, Australia and America.

Pauline is also a visiting tutor at residential colleges, teaching the art of miniature painting to students at West Dean and the Earnley Concourse, both in West Sussex. She is married to Brian Denyer, who is also an artist and printmaker. They live and work from their studios on Ditchling Common in Sussex.
